Amazon India Launches Voice-Based Shopping with Alexa
Amazon has added a replacement Voice button powered by virtual assistant Alexa to its shopping app in India. The feature allows you to use voice commands to perform various tasks including search, reorder, order tracking, and therefore the ability to feature a product to your handcart.
Getting started with the new Speak to buy feature is sort of simple. All you’ve got to try to do is tap on the Voice button present within the top right corner of the Amazon India app beside the handcart. The feature will request audio permissions. Grant it and tap on the button again to perform voice searches powered by Alexa.
It is worth noting that the feature doesn’t support the Alexa wake word just yet. That is, you’ll need to manually tap on the Voice button whenever you would like to use the feature and easily saying the word “Alexa” won’t trigger the feature.
You can place an order from the app using voice commands in two steps. Firstly, you’ll need to add the merchandise to the cart using the “Add (product name) to cart” command. then, you’ll use the command “Checkout” followed by the merchandise name to put the order. Do note that the order is going to be placed with “Cash on Delivery” because of the payment option. Voice commands are limited to English at this moment but it’s expected to be expanded to regional languages within the future.
The feature is out there for both Amazon Prime and non-Prime customers within the country. If you don’t see the voice button, confirm your Amazon app is updated to the newest version available on the Google Play Store. there’s no word on the supply of the feature on iOS thus far.
